Nicolas Ghesquière, 42-year-old
Yesterday, the biggest rumour of the year in the fashion world has been confirmed; Marc Jacobs announced his plan to concede the creative helm of Louis Vuitton after 16 fruitful years. It should be known that the house of the famous LV monogram is considered the most lucrative luxury label in the world with over 7,5 billion dollars in revenues. As a matter of fact, the reigning sacred cow of the LVMH group has decided to focus on his eponymous label in order to prepare for his initial public offering. Thus, Ghesquière, the french designer behind the revival of Balenciaga, is set to sign his first women ready-to-wear fall-winter collection at Vuitton next march in Paris (2014). The expectations are high but since the group has been divided in three distinct department; Kim Jones being the director of menswear since 2011 and Darren Spaziani looking over the permanent leather craft since October 1st 2013, Ghesquière can really concentrate on showcasing his skills and creative talent. Besides Alexander Wang is now the artistic director of Balenciaga (and is doing absolutely amazing) which is currently suing Ghesquière for breach of contract demonstrating how the fashion world can be at the same time free-spirited and open-minded and shallow and peculiar! Anyhow let's hope for all the StylXtas out there that Ghesquière will be able to construct a great future for Louis Vuitton and be able to preserve the fabulous legacy that Vuitton has been transcending since 1854. Moreover, we, at StylX.net are very glad with the french house's decision to put forward leather handbags and trying to leave out the monogram as luxury customers around the world are looking for even more exclusive materials and designs without tacky logos. We are still saddened by the departure of the American designer as he offered tremendous designs through the years and we have been speechless ever since his amazing last collection for Vuitton.
Some of his most famous sets.
Final looks for Vuitton.
Best of luck!
