Top Trends of 2012

Is it us or 2012 went by so quickly? Time certainly flies by! In order to start a fresh new year 2013, we, at StylX.net, considered it would be pertinent to review the top trends of the past year whether we followed them or not!

1) Peplum : Seen on runways throughout the year, designers were legions to incorporate a pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of their blouses, dresses or jackets. The structure adds so much femininity to a design you will feel so ladylike!

2) Leather : Never too far from the yearly fashion scene, leather however took over in 2012. In fact, it was crafted into garments as much as accessories this year, from pants to clutch to skirts. We absolutely have to mention leather-sleeves jackets that made fall and winter more bearable and fashion-forward.

3) Baroque : Luxe fabrics like silk, jacquard, velvet and leather combined with embellishments dating from gilded designs as old as 1600 adorned dresses, blouses and accessories.

4) Wedge Sneakers : Certainly inspired by the hip-hop world, the wedge we all knew had a well-deserved makeover giving it just the right amount of sporty edge and dare we say a comfortable one!

5) Oxblood : The vibrant and rich red-wine colour was seen in every possible iteration and all over the world therefore can be considered the shade of Fall 2012.

6) Bold Prints :Miuccia Prada once again created quite the trend when presenting her fitted printed trousers pushing the envelope and many women to be fearless and not be afraid to sport matching outfits and colourful attention-grabber prints. We also want to mention Neon Colours and Colour Blocking.

7) Studs & Spikes : The '80s had a comeback! Not a full one but still the punk rock scene of that decade surely made its way to fashion shows and even haute couture shows (Valentino). We have hence seen metallic adornments on anything and everything even on shirt collars!

That is what is great with fashion, it moves forward and always manages to excite us! We cannot wait for 2013! So to every StylXta out there: we wish you a new year filled with peace, joy and meaning!

LBJ Is The New LBD

On the fashion scale, the irreverent Carine Roitfeld is considered an institution as she was at the creative helm of Vogue Paris for over a decade (January 2001 - January 2011) and on the other hand, Karl Lagerfeld, designer, photographer and author extraordinaire does not need any introduction directing not only Chanel but his own eponymous label for what is considered an eternity in this ephemeral industry. Combine the artistic influence and mind of these two fashion icons and you get the chicest book of the season; The Little Black Jacket, Chanel's classic revisited. As a matter of fact, apart from the camellia, the bi-colour shoe, the shoulder bag or the fragrance Chanel N. 5, the mythic jacket consists of another true signature piece of mademoiselle Coco Chanel who introduced this indispensable garment in woman's closet now all over the world in the 50s. Most likely famous in the tweed version, the jacket represents regality and intemporality. The book essentially aims to offer a photographic exhibition and to capture the essence of Chanel throughout what can be perceived as a celebrity tribute reuniting artists of eclectic fields all posing in their personalized black jacket. We, at StylX.net, strongly suggest that you get your manicured hands on a jacket but if not possible try the book; this gem contains a year worth of inspiration and allows you to fall back in love with the amazingness that oozes from every unique design. Coco would be so proud!

Givenchy Haute Couture Hiatus

Today marks a tremendously sad day for couture aficionados around the world, in fact dear StylXtas, it has been announced  that Riccardo Tisci, the current creative director, will take a break and not be presenting a Givenchy show at the Paris Haute Couture week held next January even though the designer has agreed to produce gowns on a single basis for major events (think placements at the Oscars or the Costume Institute Gala) and concentrate on ready-to-wear. In a previous post, we mentionned that Givenchy was a trusted member of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture and therefore a great deal of expectations were directed towards this household name collection. At this time, we still do not know how long this hiatus is going to last and pray that it will not be a definitive decision nor will it be a trend among the twelve present guardians of haute couture.

We just come to realize that the little black dress Audrey Hepburn famously wore in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's is an original Hubert de Givenchy design...proving once again that fashion is interconnected in sometimes weird coincidental ways! Also, we stumbled on this picture of John F. Kennedy funeral where the family wore Givenchy to pay their last respects. We wonder what would Hubert de Givenchy say (He retired in 1995.)?

More Than Just Breakfast at Tiffany's

Few brands in the world can boast about their very own trademarked colour. Tiffany is one of those illustrious fashion houses as the company registered the so-called Tiffany blue (light medium robin egg blue) which was extensively used since 1845 on so many promotional materials.

Even though Tiffany & Co. is definitely a direct concurrent of StylX.net, we cannot argue with their impressive history of achievements and creative influence over the jewellery and lately fashion accessories industry. The essence of the brand has not been altered since the foundation in 1837 and has allowed to develop a label synonymous with quality, style and contemporaneity.  The American institution has then been internationalized in order to support the increasing demand (more than 250 Tiffany & Co. boutiques serve customers around the world). Over the course of the years, the jeweller has teamed up with so many great artists to develop an extensive portfolio of products and offer designs that are timeless and interesting thanks to Frank Gehry, Camille Le Tallec, Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso and Jean Schlumberger.

We, at StylX.net, will definitely strive to create a brand that resonates with quality, uniqueness and outstanding personalized customer service. Even though our approach is quite different we stand by our products that come from only the best of suppliers and invite you to browse our many closets as our website is designed to specifically answer your every fashion need and desire.

Xmas Aftermath: Boxing Day!

Hello to you StylXtas of the world!
We hope that you had a blast putting on your fabulous outfits for Christmas' dinner parties and cocktails. We just want to let you know that putting a few pounds is totally fine as well ha! On a more serious note, one thing we suggest to get rid of those extra calories is certainly to hit to boxing day sales at your nearest shopping centre! Never mind the negative perceptions some may have proffered concerning the hassle this day is, the savings you are about to cash in is just ridiculous. From electronics to books to clothes, it seems like every store has something interesting to offer as many discounts are only applicable on the 26th or 27th! Just make sure you bring your received gift cards with you and put some comfortable shoes on! Please be also advised that most of the boutiques do not offer exchanging service on those days given the massive attendance and opening hours are subject to changes accordingly to internal politics. If not possible, the boxing day is an Internet phenomenon as online stores may offer the same discounts or even better ones, just do not expect to receive your items as promptly as usual given the high traffic. I guess we are all set to drop 'til you drop! Cheers from StylX.net!

Hurray for Rad Hourani

First of all, our team of StylXperts is joining me to greet you, beloved readers, with our warmest wishes for the Holiday season. May 2013 bring happiness and the very best life has to offer including, of course, fashion accessories from StylX.net! As this specific time of the year allows us to dream and to wander in fashionable fantasies, it was only natural to us to observe haute couture in order to delight our eyes and get a mindful of inspiration. Haute couture is literally every StylXta's dream considering that to be qualified so, the garment needs to be made to order for a particular customer, using expensively high-quality fabrics and with important (read obsessive) attention to details. To our great surprise, a fellow Canadian (Rad Hourani) just received the honour of being selected  by the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture to figure on the Parisian Haute Couture calendar. Hourani is therefore the very first Canadian to be invited by the elitist council but is also set to make history by presenting for the first time a unisex collection. This invitation consists of an opportunity to be part of an highly select designers club. Actually, haute couture creations which can cost up to many tens of thousands of dollars actually can only be labelled accordingly by twelve members including Chanel, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Jean-Paul Gauthier, etc. The Montréal-based designer will have four years to showcase his craftsmanship and talent and then be submitted to a decisive vote, granting him or not, of a full member position into the exclusive group of fashion powerhouses. We wish him the best of luck and will definitely look out for him in the near future especially concerning androgynous designs.

Inévitable Brad Pitt for Chanel

Mademoiselle Chanel was not only the genius seamstress who integrated trousers to women's closet and liberated them from wearing corsage, but also the first one to launch a couturier perfume. Her influence throughout the year is inevitable and so is her famous Chanel N. 5. For now almost a decade (officially launched in 1921), the fragrance has captivated both men and women's taste and imagination. In fact, Coco Chanel created the concoction in collaboration with Russian-French Chemist Ernest Beaux and was auto-proclamed the first égérie appearing in a glamourous advertisement in Harper's Bazaar debuting a long list of world-renowed muse from Lauren Hutton to Catherine Deneuve to Nicole Kidman. However, earlier this year, the fashion house caused quite a commotion by selecting Brad Pitt as the new spokesperson to represent the ubiquitous feminine perfume, an unprecedented choice within the billion dollars industry. In the first segment, Pitt recites a poem which was puzzling and perplexing for the target market and as for the second part, the thespian is being made less visible since they incorporated pictures of gorgeous women portrayed in metropole cities around the world.

The bold decision certainly reflects the avant-gardiste essence of Chanel and can now be associated with success as the advertisement itself received massive (read viral)attention from an internationally broad audience (18 million views in the first 48 hours). We, at StylX.net, applaud this choice and stand by Marylin Monroe's quote that sometimes all you need before going to bed is a few drops of Chanel N. 5 (we perhaps would add maybe just an iconic pearl necklace to complement your sleeping outfit!).

The X Fashion

This past fall, we were so excited to watch The X Factor on Fox not only because of the amazing talents we witnessed evolved throughout the season but also because of the incredible looks everyone pulled off from contestants to judges to hosts Khloé Kardashian and Mario Lopez. As a matter of fact, the second season showcased bold fashion statements as well as impeccable tastes as if we were attending Fashion Week every night. The masterminds accountable for the very diversified looks are The Glam Squad as they like to be refer to which consists of costume designer and stylist Marina Toybina and master hairstylist Dean Banowetz. Their work on the show has always been consistently fresh, appropriate and daring with great attention to details...qualities every StylXta recognize and value!

From face tattoos to ear cuffs to bracelet-rings to neon hair streaks, so many aspects of fashion have been explored and that makes The X Factor a truly amazing live magazine to look up to and be inspired from as the contestants did not have to change their personal style but enhance and polish it with the help of professionals. At www.StylX.net, we stand by the idea that it is by staying open to new looks and by not being afraid to embrace your unique style that you certainly let your inner style shine through! Can't wait for new season and kudos to Tate!
