Today marks a tremendously sad day for couture aficionados around the world, in fact dear StylXtas, it has been announced that Riccardo Tisci, the current creative director, will take a break and not be presenting a Givenchy show at the Paris Haute Couture week held next January even though the designer has agreed to produce gowns on a single basis for major events (think placements at the Oscars or the Costume Institute Gala) and concentrate on ready-to-wear. In a previous post, we mentionned that Givenchy was a trusted member of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture and therefore a great deal of expectations were directed towards this household name collection. At this time, we still do not know how long this hiatus is going to last and pray that it will not be a definitive decision nor will it be a trend among the twelve present guardians of haute couture.
We just come to realize that the little black dress Audrey Hepburn famously wore in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's is an original Hubert de Givenchy design...proving once again that fashion is interconnected in sometimes weird coincidental ways! Also, we stumbled on this picture of John F. Kennedy funeral where the family wore Givenchy to pay their last respects. We wonder what would Hubert de Givenchy say (He retired in 1995.)?
