Academy Awards 2013

The Oscars are literally the apotheosis of glamour. As a matter of fact, this year makes no exception as thespians and craftsmen and women of the silver screen gathered to celebrate the tremendous work and performances at the now renamed Dolby Theatre in L.A. The host of the night, Seth MacFarlane, succeeded in keeping the tempo of the ceremony upbeat and cheerful and of course make the audience chuckle and laugh out loud and Adele hit all the right note while performing Skyfall in a gorgeous Burberry Dress.

We, at StylX.net, were amazed by the dresses but felt like it could have been a tad bit more fashion-forward or risqué. Jennifer Lawrence was stunning but played it safe in another Dior dress and may we add how she gracefully coped after slipping on her way to get her award! The winner was among many others to have opted for a long dress in jewel or rich tone (ocean blue, Valentino red, pink and coral were definitely preferred by a majority of celebrities).

On the other hand, the rest of the A-list stars chose either white, black, white and black or sparkly dresses to show off their sense of style and fit bodies. It seems like past winners had the same idea (Sandra Bullock, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Salma Hayek). Mention of honour for Anne Hathaway and Naomi Watts who were our favorites of the night. Congrats ladies...cannot wait for next year already!

Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Trends

Even though we are taking full advantage of our cozy intricate sweaters and layered coats and jackets, we, at StylX.net, cannot wait for the snow to melt and be spoilt about choosing which trend to put on! Here is our take on the must-have pieces/designs every StylXta should consider for Spring/Summer 2013.

1- Bold Graphic : Like the savvy adage says ; when it comes to gutsy abstract (read psychedelic) print patterns you better go big or go home and let the graphic speaks for itself. So keep accessorizing to a minimum and try to opt for those floral gone crazy or water prints effects that we have seen throughout fashion weeks. However, white did not say its last words as white dresses (we are not talking about bridal wear here) were legions to strut runways sometimes with interesting midriff cut outs.
2- Flashy Metallic Accents : Be it belts, shoes or garments, sheen accessories were seen on countless designs this year. Ultimately, you want to add a thoughtful touch and not sport a full look that will make you look like a robot right?
3- Sheer : What better way to celebrate those hot summer nights than to wear strategically designed sheered outfit. It really does not necessitate you to risk suffering from a wardrobe malfunction but sometimes it does feel good to flaunt it if you have it! In that case, unusual spots can be exhibited like your ribs or even the end of your spine in the most elegant of ways!
4- Neon Fluorescent : To offset the minimalistic influence (thanks to Phoebe Philo and Francisco Costa) all the colours of the rainbow and more have been employed from jewel tones to flashy neon colours; black is certainly not the colour of this season. So get your fierce on and do not be afraid to stand out from the crowd. Furthermore, this trend also leads us to consider, this season again, colour-blocking, a recurring concept that keeps reinterpreting designers since many seasons already.
5- Leather : Either worn as a biker or bomber jacket or crafted into skirts and structural pieces, this material is being dyed in every hue in order to make your statement as a true fashion addict. Also, Helmut Newton seemed to have influenced a lot of collections or maybe 50 Shades of Grey is accountable for the multiple S&M inspired looks and accents that have been acclaimed by fashion bloggers around the world.
6- Bermudas : To pull off that boyish look, one has to pay attention to proportions as it is very easy to look messy as if you had mistaken your boyfriend’s. Hence try to wear a fitted top in order to balance your look!
7- Stripes, Plaids and Checks: These specific patterns are literally everywhere this season! In fact, they are sometimes large or narrow, horizontal, vertical and even diagonal and come in all kinds of hues and textures (Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton). Will you be the adventurous one and master those looks?
8- Back to the Future : Two decades have noticeably inspired the fashion world for 2013. In fact, the 60s are back and retro never looked so good mainly in reason of mature and delicate floral and fine appliqué. The grunge decade (90s) is also definitely back but with a twist as designers revealed baggy jeans, slip dresses and even high-waisted trousers.

In short, we have resumed what we perceived as the most wearable and noticeable fashion trends for the upcoming Spring /Summer season. Not only we are overwhelmed with joy because of the fashion feast designers have treated us once again, we are happy to share those humble tips to you so that you can truly let your inner style shine through!

55th Grammy Awards

The Grammy’s is one of the most glamorous evening of the year as craftsmen and craftswomen of the music industry either behind or on the scene are gathering to celebrate the great achievements of the past year and paying tribute to great legends and commemorating the loss of mesmerizing ones. The 55th edition makes no exception as the Staples Center welcomed musicians of all genders and allowing them to perform unlikely yet amazing numbers like Elton John and Ed Sheeran or Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys. Fashion wise, it is surely a night defined by risk-taking but this year the urges for envelope-pushing outfits have been tamed by CBS memo asking attendees to ban breasts, buttocks, genitals and message-sending lapel pins. One gal who took advantage of that request is certainly J.Lo who presented the first Grammy in a slit dress that would make Angelina Jolie stunned. Even though her dress was unforgettable and after tumultuous reflexion at www.StylX.net, the best dressed gal of the night is ex aequo in between Rihanna (vintage Alaia dress) and Taylor Swift (J. Mendel chiffon gown) each one totally owning their look and accessorizing them perfectly. Honourable mention goes the Miss Janelle Monae for once again pulling of her signature tuxedo with a refreshing twist and close second is obviously Beyonce who chose to opt for a structured and bold coloured jumpsuit instead of a sparkly gown!

Also, for those of you who did not know, Clive Davis, one godfather of the music industry is hosting a party the night before the Grammy’s that has literally everybody who is anybody. Even though the presence of Whitney Houston may have been heavy at times, the evening is indubitably another occasion for A-listers to play dress up, wow us and inspiring us either positively or negatively for the following months to come! In short, it was a weekend to remember and get inspired from!
