CFDA 2013 Fashion Awards


Founded in 1962 by American publicist Eleanor Lambert, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, CFDA, is a non-lucrative trade association regrouping more than 400 American fashion and accessory designers. In short, their primary mission is to support the overall growth of American fashion as a global industry. With Diane Von Fürstenberg as the president since 2009, you bet the mission is being fulfilled brillantly and that American fashion has been blossoming in every way possible and shinning internationally. Not only does the Council and its multiple actions allow the development of American fashion, the CFDA foundation also raises funds for charity and industry activities (Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, The CFDA Health Initiative, The CFDA-Vogue Initiative for HIV and AIDS, Fashion for America, Fashion for Japan, Fashion for Haiti and Fashion for Sandy Relief just to name a few. Talk about spreading passion and love! 



So on June 3rd 2013, the CFDA Fashion Awards, also known as the "Oscars of Fashion" honoured once again excellence in fashion design in New York at the Lincoln Centre. The process is quite simple; nominations for each award category are submitted by CFDA members along with top fashion journalists, retailers and stylists and then the nominees and the recipients are ratified by the CFDA Board of Directors. 

We, at StylX.net, are totally agreeing with this year recipients but would have been as happy if Alexander Wang won the womenswear award even though Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler were as deserving. As for the menswear award, it was give to mister Thom Browne for the second time and Philip Lim received the honours for best accessories. One of the highlight of the night was surely when ex-secretary of state, Hillary Clinton presented the highest honour of the night to Oscar de la Renta or when Vera Wang accepted her lifetime achievement award (moving and passionate). Cruise - Resort Collections 2014


Dear StylXtas,
                         like most of us you probably noticed the emergence of Cruise or Resort Collections recently onto the fashion world and wondered in what is it any different that the twice-yearly seasonal collections (spring/summer, fall/winter) heralded throughout fashion weeks in the Big 4. Well, Cruise or Resort Collections also referred as holiday or travel collections consist essentially of an inter-season or pre-season line of ready-to-wear usually created by either a fashion brand or a fashion house. Originally   marketed by upscale stores for customers who were expected to jet off to a warm-weather destination after Christmas holiday season.



However, nowadays the marketing has changed targeting customers who have finished purchasing their fall wardrobe and are looking forward upcoming vacations. Technically, we are talking here about  garments made of denim, silk, cotton, microfiber, poplin and straw so basically fabrics that are light, breathable and easy to pack. Resort or Cruise wear is synonym of functionality and comfortability, think sunny prints, nautical-theme, caftans and sandals and innovative waistlines, creating a cross-cultural style that also signifies affluence, relaxation and appreciation of nature and leisure which should transcend a sense of style to the wearer. Also, it should also be known that Resort and Cruise Collections are created for men as well and the same functionality and spirit are transported when creating those collections.

Feed Projects: When Fashion Meets Charity



Few people in this world have witness hunger and poverty like Lauren Bush did five years ago. As a UN world food program representative, she travelled several countries and was then inspired to design the first FEED bag which was the first of many more products to come. In fact, the daughter-in-law of Ralph Lauren and the niece of George W. Bush created a project which mission would be to : "create good products that help FEED the world.[...] by building a set donation into the cost of each product." Providing healthy and nutritious food is not the only thing this humanitarian project has done, even more so the awareness brought by her gracious and generous presence in fashion top events and through medias has helped our understanding of the problem; every five seconds a child dies because of hunger and malnutrition and one in seven people around the world goes to bed hungry. More recently, Rachel Roy has contributed with her fantastic design helping create a new collection which features signature pieces and woven accessories which remind us of our Bohemian Beauty collection and which sales will benefit India's malnutrition problems. Furthermore, by the end of June, Target will also launch a FEED line in the United-States in order to fight hunger in America. Thanks to influent retail partners, the collections are sold worldwide with extensive channels of distribution, one bag and one child at a time!
