Gwyneth Paltrow : “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

This week the world renowned variety magazine People named Gwyneth Paltrow the most beautiful woman on earth rejoining the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry and Beyonce. Then, apocalypse surged on the blogosphere and in newspapers all around the world. Severe, read mean, editorials deplored this selection and even listed reasons why she should not top this list. We, at StylX.net, are a little bit concerned by the hatred aimed towards the 40-year-old Oscar winner and cookbook author. Sure, her extraordinary discipline does not sound really festive (avoiding carbs, go hungry or get sick from her fitness regimen) but the efforts and sacrifices she is making to look good and be healthy are undeniable. We also think that whoever would have been chosen is always vulnerable to these kinds of comments as beauty and style are far from an unanimous science.

Moreover, one thing we can agree on is certainly her irreproachable love of fashion and style icon status (she even documents her outings and stores her prized possessions for daughter Apple) . Funny fact : She was named world's best-dressed women by People magazine last September, talk about obsession ha! That said, her signature minimalism advised by her loyal stylist Elizabeth Saltzman have helped the Goop.com director stand out more than once on red carpets and media appearances. The number of times she wowed us with a surprising twist or bold choice are countless and that makes Paltrow a refreshing fashion trendsetter. However, she tends to forget that we do not have her financial freedom allowing us to splurge on a 795$ Valentino studded iPad case. Anyways, we are not taken aback by this news and would have been as happy with Kerry Washington (2nd) or Amanda Seyfried (3rd). If you have to remember one thing from Gwyneth, we hope it is her capability of accepting the fact that she is aging. As a matter of fact, she seems to embrace it and is happy to announce that she feels much more comfortable now compared to her 20s. Hate her or love her she is here to stay and make you talk about her!

PS. We absolutely love her Antonio Berardi side sheered dress at the Iron Man 3 premiere. Do you? Tell us in our Photo Booth area.

Philip Treacy Rad Hatter

Spring has finally arrived, at least here in Canada, and we, at StylX.net, although not against the idea of sporting that healthy sun-kissed tan skin, are even more excited to go out and wear our most outrageous hats! Coachella has inspired us so much this year as the fashion personality we are paying tribute to this week; Philip Treacy who just published a photographic archive snapping away 20 years in the business.

The 45-year-old hat-maker got his start by designing hats for couture houses like Chanel, Valentino and Givenchy right after graduating from the National College of Arts and Design in Dublin. Since the beginning of the new millennium he has gone to New York and London to show his annual catwalk shows which are always acclaimed by fashion critics and worn by StylXtas all over the world. More recently, the Irish milliner made headlines when he designed 36 headpieces for the wedding of the decade : Prince William & Catherine Middleton.

As a matter of fact, there are only so many designers who can pretend to have such a broad list of clients from A-list thespians to royal families to billion dollars movie franchise, have received an OBE from prince Charles and have won five British Accessory Designer of the Year but mister Treacy can honestly boast about all of these accomplishments. With influential friends and admirers like the late Isabella Blow, Alexander McQueen and Sarah Jessica Parker, no need to question his talent and impeccable craftsmanship. We, as StylXperts, are continuously in awe in front of so much creativity and wittiness, we simply adore his creations and urge you to sport a hat as often as you can because not only it commands attention and gives direction to your outfit, it also protects from UV damages!

Coachella Fashion Festival

Every mid-April since 1999* people from across the United-States and elsewhere in the world gather in Indio, California to attend one of the most influential visual arts (installations and sculptures) and music festival which features a great variety of artists, upcoming and established, as well as diversified music genres (pop, rock, indie, hip hop, electronic, alternative, etc.). Tents and stages are hosting live music performances in a scenery perfect for those kind of celebrations (hot, sunny and dry desert climate) and since 2002, on-site camping allowing many individuals to take full advantage of the three-day event, take note that since 2012 the festival would be held over two consecutive weekends. Hence, we, at, StylX.net, have to admit that perhaps the amazing performances, are fairly more interested in the fashion that is happening throughout the event. As a matter of fact, Coachella is the pefect occasion not only for A-listers but fashion afficionados as well to showcase their impeccable taste wearing the coolest and funkiest outfits. I mean there are only so many opportunities in a year to sport your darest summer looks combinations. Accordingly, after the first weekend, we have already spotted the most remarkable looks from the most noticeable StylXtas. So far, so good as supermodels like Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio embodied the spirit by sporting intricate laces, leather shorts, interesting prints, and the Coachella signature gear: ankle boots, cowboy hats and sunglasses. The key of the concept is to look effortlessly put together, it has to be comfortable and praticable as you would be standing and dancing all day and night. Special mention for Kate Bosworth who always look the part and kept it simple yet elegent.

We cannot wait for the second weekend and advise everybody in short of inspiration to check out our Bohemian Beauty closet where you will find the perfect baubles to complement your outfit or totally create one from a piece of jewelry! And as Bob Marley would say : live the life you love and love the life you live.

*Except 2000 when the festival did not take place

Stylish Iron Lady

Yesterday, the late former Prime Minister of England, baronness Margaret Thatcher, passed away at age 87 and whether you were fond or not of her controversial policies, we have to recognize the socio-economic turnover she was responsible for and her incredible determination. Here, at StylX.net, we not only salute her love, dedication and servicing of her beloved nation but also her inimitable style that she carried until the end of her third mandate. As a matter of fact, Iron Lady was not flashy but rather appropriate having understood and assimilated the fact that she had to be well-dressed to represent her country and that it is a crucial part of her job as prime minister.
First and foremost, her signature style consists essentially of her natural pearls (that she continued to wear even though strongly advised not to), monochromatic skirt suits, plain or patterned silk blouses (from Mark & Spencer) with floppy long ties : ‘’I often wear bows, they are rather softening, they are rather pretty’’. Moreover, her favorite accessory must have been her Asprey black patent leather handbag which was as famous as her imppeccable brushing another important matter to her constant and strong look and symbol of her intransigeance and tenacity especially because carried at several key state meetings. Most of the time she would favor blue shades but for special occasions it was not uncommon to see her in bright hues. Another brand that she would always go to is without a doubt Aquascutum, a British heritage family label obviously because of the ethos of the company.

In short, we will be mourning her death and always remember to stay true to your inner style and as she was quoted saying for decades : only wear clothes that you feel comfortable in!

May you rest in peace

Makeup Virtuose Pat McGrath

Good day to you StylXtas of the world,
today we would like to dedicate this post to the genius behind the majority of makeup must-have looks of the past decades; Pat McGrath. In fact, fashion designers of  today and yesterday may at times disagree on matter such as trends, concepts or missions but one thing they all can admit candidly is the undeniable talent and charisma of McGrath. Currently the global cosmetics creative director for Procter & Gamble, she manages to create the catwalk makeup for the most notorious and sought after designers (averaging 30 shows per fashion week), give her expert advices through Allure magazine, fulfill the position of beauty director at i-D magazine and work on editorials with top photographers and institutions like Vogue and Bazaar. The, believe it or not, 43-year-old woman never fails to deliver inspired and wearable looks that perfectly capture the vision of the designers she is working closely with season after season. Also, it is not uncommon for the makeup artist to be hired by A-listers in order to achieve a look for an event. Her process is as fascinating as her art "I'm influenced a lot by the fabrics I see, the colors that are in the collections and the girl's faces. It's always a challenge but that's the key, to make it different every time."So we, at StylX.net, strongly suggest that you follow her on Twitter @PatMcGrathReal for the latest makeup trends and useful tips. Moreover, we would be so very glad to see your makeup chef d'oeuvre that you can post in the photo booth area of our website. Go ahead, be creative and let your inner style shine through!
