Emmys 2013

On sunday night, Neil Patrick Harris hosted the 65th edition of the Emmys which rewards outstanding performances in TV be it miniseries or movies. As expected the front runner of each category pretty much won in their respective category but we, at StylX.net, were obviously interested by the amazing red carpet held before the actual even. And can we express how delightful it was! As a matter of fact, jewel tones were greatly sported by the stars with red and pink dominating . Furthermore, this year, we definitely thought that the starlets stepped it up a notch fashion wise as they picked (or were handed by their stylists) modern trends; romantic lace overlays, graphic black-and-white combination, stategic skin-baring cuts and though-girl harnesses. So if you were looking for the extension of the Milan fashion week you will be certainly served ha! The best-dressed was definitely Kerry Washington with her romantic Marchesa gown (the final look of their last collection). One other positive feedback was the fact that the actresses wore many up-and-coming designers which is always greatly appreciated by savvy StylXtas like us! Anyways, we always appreciated a red carpet as they always remind us to be a Glamorous Gal!

NYFW : New York Fashion Week Fall 2013

September is such a big month fashion-wise, as a matter of fact, we all know fashion publications offer their biggest issue for the ninth month of the year as it is also when designers, critics, bloggers and other industry professional gather in New York for a sponsored Mercedes-Benz fashion week. It used to host the great Fashion Night Out event but for some mysterious reason the event has been on hiatus this year.

Anyways, we, at StylX.net in the wait of attending these shows one day, followed the shows via social media and were so very glad to witness again inspiring and interesting fashion. First and foremost, Diane Von Furstenberg created amazing prints in blue, yellow and pink and caused quite a scene by casting supermodel Naomi Campbell to close the show in gold and black macrame. Victoria Beckham also surprised us by shifting the conventions about shapes and proportions and we are pretty sure she is on to something that will be seen in the future trends. And of course the queen of New York, Donna Karan outdid herself once again for Spring 2014 especially with her bomber jackets, overalls and sweaters. Furthermore, StylXtas anywhere in the world should also take some time to be inspired by the street fashion whilst the event. In fact, the fashion is great on the runways but most of the time we are so impressed by the fashion worn by attendees and models. So make sure to have a glimpse and let your style shine through!

''L'Amour Fou'' de Pierre Bergé & Yves Saint-Laurent

Since being under the tutelage of Christian Dior in Paris back in the 50's, Yves Saint-Laurent, born in Algeria in 1936, has been said to have revolutionized the fashion world more than once despite having to face the hurdles of war, betrayals and the pressure of becoming the head designer at only 21. As a matter of fact, after suing and gaining 48 000 Euros from Dior, he created in collaboration with industrialist and life partner Pierre Bergé his own eponymous fashion house in 1960. Over the next two decades, Yves Saint-Laurent wowed the fashion world with its signature blazers, smoking jackets and pea coats, fulfilling his duties and passions being member of La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. In 1966, the world renowed couturier came out with the very first prêt-à-porter collection in his attempt to democratize fashion selling the ready-to-wear design at Rive Gauche stores Catherine Deneuve is said to be the first customer and had became one of his many muses following the likes of Loulou de la Falaise, Iman, Betty Cattroux, Laetitia Casta, etc.

Even though considered a true Jet-Setter at that time, his collections did not always collected rave reviews and were sometimes demolished by the press which would add to the factors that encourage his consumption of alcohol and drugs. This fabulous and tumultuous life ended on June 1st 2008 as Saint-Laurent succumbed from brain cancer shortly after his same-sex union with Pierre Bergé was recognized by the french autorities.

In February 2009, Bergé had gathered 733 works of art collected since 1950 to be held at a Christie's auction because he felt like the art ''has lost the greater part of its signifiance'' without Yves in his life. The process was captured on camera in the documentary ''L'Amour Fou'' that retraced the great Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé. For many YSL may only be a logo that resonnates with French couture but the essence and legacy of Yves Saint-Laurent is so much more than that, he was a man that truly understood women and a man who adored them deeply. His influence is still vibrant today and we at StylX.net would like to commemorate his genius. RIP YSL
