The much anticipated silver screen adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald tragic novel, ''The Great Gatsby'', will open on may 10th and we, at StylX.net, cannot wait for it! As a matter of fact, the Australian film director, Baz Lurhmann who also adapted and produced Moulin Rouge, another fashion feist, this time teamed up with costume designer Catherine Martin to make sure that the outfits for the movie were right on point; depicting revealing and flamboyant flappers and elegant tuxedo-clad gentlemen in the 1920's. In order to capture the unique essence of the Roaring Twenties, Lurhmann asked Brooks Brothers to provide all of the men's primary clothes and 600 tuxedos. As for the female actresses, Martin created most of the designs to ensure historical adherence minutia but she also thought it would be for the best if she could use none other than Miuccia Prada's pieces that exactly reflected the specific time period. Without the fabulous designer knowledge the costumer designer use Prada and Miu Miu looks for the film's test and it worked wonders resulting in asking Prada to participate herself in Gatsby. By delving into such an ample starting point (all of Prada and Miu Miu looks), Martin chose looks that would transcend Fitzgerald visceral modernity. The stylish duo employed 40 looks for the movie especially during party scenes where the character of Daisy should be portrayed as the most powerful and rich woman on earth!
On the other hand, the premiere which took place last week was also a fashion statement in itself if you consider the wow's we experimented by scrutinizing these fabulous looks. Of course Carey Mulligan, Vogue May Cover, was exquisite in a sexy structured red Lanvin dress paired with black peep-toe sandal heels but her costars Isla Fisher, Nina Dobrev and Jennifer Morrison were as fabulous!
